The 2017 Milken Institute’s Best-Performing Cities Index ranks U.S. metropolitan areas by how well they are creating and sustaining jobs and the community's overall economic growth. Out of 201 small cities in the U.S., the Sebastian-Vero Beach MSA ranked #14, the second highest in FL just after The Villages score of #13. In 2016, the index ranked our area as #35 on the list.
The Index components include job, wage and salary, and technology growth. In most years, these give a good indication of the underlying structural performance of regional economics. The November 2017 unemployment rate in Indian River County was 4.5%, compared to 5.9% in November 2016.
